Menlo Pressed Hard by Vulcans
Hawaii Hilo did not hold back in front of their home crowd on Tuesday as they left their foot on the throttle in their attacking third. Menlo faced a total of 28 shots from Hilo, 14 of which were on frame. The Oaks were only able to try 8 shots in their attack, 6 being on target, but none were strong enough to get past the Vulcans goalkeeper. Each team earned 1 corner kick in the entire game but both were cleared away by the strong defensive lines.
Giorgia Melcore started in goal for the Oaks and made 7 saves in the first half after facing 15 shots. Starting the 2nd half was Lily Roberts who made her Oak debut against Hilo. Roberts faced 13 shots in 45 minutes and managed to save 2 of them. The back line for the Oaks, managed by Taryn Thalhamer, Macy Swartz, and Ophelia Jones, all showed resilience lasting the entire 90 minutes in the scorching humid weather.
Verenia Gonzalez led the Oaks attack with 3 shots, 2 on frame in 82 minutes played and was helped vigorously by teammate Kawai Acopan. Acopan wanted to show a promising effort in her final game at her hometown of Hawaii. Her supporters fired her up as she shot 2 opportunities, both on frame. Haley Dunham and Brynn McClymond also took a chance each towards the Hilo goal but none were successful.
