Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Drew Barton

Women’s Basketball Starts New Year Off with 77-43 Victory Over ACU

Atherton, CA- Coming off their buzzer beater victory against Montana Western, Menlo Women's Basketball has officially begun GSAC conference play with the Firestorm of Arizona Christian heading to Atherton to take on the Oaks. The game that followed was a dominant 77-43 victory for Menlo that saw all nine players that suited up score. Through the first quarter Menlo saw themselves leading 30-5 as they held ACU to an abysmal 7.1% field goal percentage. By the time the final buzzer sounded the Oaks held ACU to 24% shooting from the floor, 8% shooting from three and forced 20 turnovers.

The Jasmyne Huggins Breakout Continues

Forward Jasmyne Huggins entered this game after recently being named Oak of the Week on behalf of the athletic department. Right away it was evident that her hot hand would not be cooling off which was unfortunate for ACU. Huggins did everything for Menlo tonight starting off with her game high 15 points on 7-9 shooting. She has now scored in double figures four straight games and is finding a rhythm on the offensive end of the court. She also pulled down 10 rebounds leading to her second consecutive double-double as well. Lastly, Huggins handed out a season high four assists and also, for the third consecutive game, came away with two steals. Huggins has seemingly established herself as a key contributor and will look to keep the double-doubles rolling with OUAZ on deck.

Trio of Guards All Find Success

While Huggins put together a big night down in the post, the trio of Shay Boley, Aliya Hunter and Alberte Frisch all found ways to impact the game. Boley, the team's senior leader at the point of attack, had a busy 28 minutes of action. She scored 11 points, had a game high five assists and two steals.

Aliya Hunter and Alberte Frisch were absolutely dialed in from three for the night. Hunter has been a knockdown shooter over her last four games shooting 10-17 from three including a strong 3-4 outing against the Firestorm. She scored a season high 11 points and after seeing limited playing time last year, is proving her hard work in the offseason is paying off!

Frisch was also on fire from three as she hit both of her attempts from deep. Over her last three games she has settled into a "super 6th man" role as she has provided a great scoring punch off the bench. This is her fourth consecutive double digit effort and has also been locked in from three recently with eight makes on her last 14 attempts.

Up Next…

Menlo has now won three in a row and secured their first conference victory of the year in dominant fashion. They will now turn their attention to the visiting OUAZ Spirit for a noon matchup this Saturday.  Last season Menlo went 2-0 against the Spirit with an average margin of victory that was almost 30 points. Look to coach Spataro's team to come out ready to play and push their winning streak to four.
