ATHERTON, CA – Oak Baseball were back on Cartan Field for another beautiful day of doubleheader action against the Corban Warriors. It was another offensive showdown featuring 3 home runs, 13 hits, 11 RBI, and 14 runs scored across the two games. Starting right fielder Justin Flannery saved the day with a go-ahead 2-run homer into the trees in game 1 of the day to give the Oaks the split. Overall, a great outing for Oaks Baseball ending opening weekend 3-1!
Menlo 7 - 5 Corban
The morning began with a single from leading batter Carter Harris and a double from Jayshaun Wise, the starting shortstop, to give Sage Pera runners in scoring position. The designated hitter did his job and grounded out for the RBI to get the Oaks on the board. Wise swiftly stole home off of a wild pitch to add one more run before ending the 1st inning. The Warriors followed in the 2nd inning to tie things up 2-2. The score remained even until the bottom of the 6th when Jaden Fulsher first successfully laid down a bunt for a single and to load up the bases. Carter Harris once again sacrifice flied out to center field to bring home Jonathan Charboneau. Pera blasted an RBI double into left center to bring the score to 5-2.
The Warriors once again rallied back to tie the game up at 5-5 going into the bottom of the 8th inning. Sage Pera was up to bat with two outs and responded with yet another double to left center to get on base for Justin Flannery. Flannery hit the ball into the trees out at Cartan Field to take the lead with certainty for the go-ahead 2-RBI home run, his first of the season. It was a team win handled with smart offense to earn the Oaks the win!
On the mound, the Oaks saw four different pitchers. Starting right handed pitcher Chase Barsotti went 6 innings pitched and struck 5 Warriors out. Sam Grannes, new Oak out of Newcastle, CA has his first appearance today and pitched for one inning. Robely Corsi was granted the win today after an inning pitched with Braden Proud coming in for the save at the end. Proud can happily celebrate his birthday now with his first save of the season!
Corban 13 - 7 Menlo
The Warriors came back with vengeance in the final game of the four-game series and ran up a 13-0 lead before the Oaks were able to get on the board. Christian Luevano, a freshman from San Diego, CA, fired off his first home run of his collegiate career out of Cartan Field to build up some offensive energy to begin the bottom of the 5th. An RBI single from Ray Garcia and Fulshner would add two more runs to the Oaks side. Even though Menlo was unable to complete the comeback, they did make things interesting when Garcia sacrifice flied out for an RBI, a pitching error brought Sean Pettener home, and a Fulsher 2-run home run would make the score 13-7.
