Atherton, CA- Menlo Women's Volleyball battled against Life Pacific for five back and forth sets Saturday afternoon. After four alternating sets the Oaks would fall in the decisive fifth set by a score of 12-15. Despite this loss, Menlo still sits at 13-5 on the season and should take away some positives from a gritty effort even though it didn't end in their favor.
Rainaud-Hinds & Barham Lead the Way
Menlo was led by the strong play of Amey Rainaud-Hinds and Ayanna Barham on both the defensive and offensive side of the net. Rainaud-Hines has spent the season among the best liberos in the entire NAIA. Saturday's match proved no different as the sophomore once again led the Oaks in digs with 30 across the five sets. She was also active in setting up her team for scoring opportunities with six assists as well.
Barham would go on to lead both teams in kills for the match. She would add 18 kills to her season total while hitting .385 across all five sets. Barham has recently found her stride on offense with 35 kills over her last four matches.
Up Next…
While this loss has pushed Life Pacific above Menlo in the standings, the Oaks will have an opportunity to get back in the win column with their upcoming road trip to Arizona. Menlo will first play OUAZ on October 6th followed by a matchup with Arizona Christian on the 7th. The Oaks did defeat both opponents earlier this year while playing in the confines of Haynes-Prim Pavilion. Hopefully this tough loss only adds fuel to the fire as conference play resumes for the Oaks!
