ATHERTON, CA – Women's Volleyball dominated on their last day of the Oak Invitational where they swept both Pacific Union and Dominican in 6 straight sets. The Oaks now have a record of 7-3 just two weeks into preseason! Amey Rainaud-Hinds is still holding #1 in the NAIA leaderboards with 222 digs!
Menlo 3 - 0 Pacific Union
The Oaks continued their momentum from Day 2 of the Oak Invitational, where they took down Warner Pacific and Simpson on Thursday. In similar fashion Menlo was able to contain the Pioneers to three sets. In the first set Menlo was on the attack and landed 11 kills against the Pioneers. The Pioneers tied it up 7-7 before Menlo went on a 5-point run. The tone was set from there and Menlo took the first set 25-12. Gabriella McKenzie began the second set with back to back kills from Paige Harmann and ended up ahead 4-0 before the Pioneers earned their first point. Pacific Union found some juice in them to keep the second set closer. But a Julia Tena service ace decided the second set 25-19 in favor of the Oaks. Two different 5-point runs earned Menlo the third set by a score of 25-15.
Menlo's kill leader was newcomer Ayanna Barham who earned 9 kills, 9 digs, and an assist. Gabriella MacKenzie and Jazmyn Tubbs totaled 6 kills each. Tubbs also was part of 3 block assists. 17 different Oaks made an appearance against Pacific Union and 10 of them earned at least one kill. Overall Menlo controlled the pace and was able to end the match in three against the Pioneers!
Menlo 3 - 0 Dominican
The Oaks put on another offensive show in Haynes-Prim for the final match of the weekend. A 6-point run in the first pushed the Oaks over to win, 25-12. Maya Saole-Su'e was all over the court with 4 kills. Sue was part of a block assist and ended the set with a solo block. The Penguins were warm by the second set and made Menlo earn it. In the beginning of the second, it was a side-out battle going back and forth. The score was tied 13-13 when Menlo began to pull ahead with 5 kills, two from Giulia Marinelli, two from Saole-Su'e, and one from Gabriella Mackenzie. One more kill from Saole-Su'e ended the second, 25-14. The Oaks clearly wanted to end the fun-filled weekend of volleyball in this third set. Menlo crushed the floors of Haynes-Prim with 15 kills to call it a night. In the final set, the Oaks won 25-15 with a Shawna Thompson kill from the middle, assisted by Amey Rainaud-Hinds!
Stat leaders for the Oaks was Maya Saole-Su'e with 11 kills and hitting 58%, also adding 3 assists, an ace, and 3 blocks. Jazmyn Tubbs was out of her mind tonight hitting 65% with 9 kills. Great hitting also comes from great setting, from Beatrice Manzon, who had 16 assists, an ace, and 4 digs, and Paige Harmann, who added 14 assists. Amey Rainaud-Hinds continues to lead in the NAIA at #1 with 222 digs in 10 matches. The next best had earned 160 digs. Rainaud is a utility player that does it all for the Oaks!
