Baseball Drops Pair of Games to Hope International, 2-1 and 18-0

FULLERTON, CA

Menlo wrapped up its road trip to Hope International on Saturday, losing both games of a doubleheader by scores of 2-1 and 18-0. The Oaks' record is now 7-29 overall, and 3-16 in conference play.

Game 1: Hope International University 2 - 1 Menlo

The first game of the day was a closely-fought contest that came down to the wire. There were a total of 10 hits in the game, with 4 for the Oaks and 6 for the Royals.

In the top of the 7th inning, following a single to right center, the junior switch hitter Jake Koeper stole second base for his first steal of the season, putting him in scoring position. Two batters later, right fielder Raymond Garcia stepped up and tied the game at 1-1 with a single to left field that brought Koeper across home plate. It was the left-handed sophomore Garcia's 6th RBI of the season.

Menlo's other big hit of the game came off the bat of second baseman Anthony Masetti, who notched his 8th double of the season. That puts him in a tie for the most doubles by an Oak this year.

Starting pitcher Logan Snow put in an excellent shift on the mound. The senior from Belmont, California pitched 7.1 innings and threw an impressive 115 pitches. He ended the day with 4 strikeouts, putting his season total at 39.

Game 2: Hope International University 18 - 0 Menlo

The second game of the day featured less offense from the Oaks, whose only hit came from designated hitter Sage Pera. That hit came in the top of the 7th, when Pera ripped his 8th double of the season down the right field line. That moved him into the aforementioned tie with Anthony Masetti for the most doubles by a Menlo player in 2023.
