Men's Volleyball Completes Nationals Run After Falling to The Master's in 3.

DES MOINES, IOWA -- #6 Men's Volleyball finish their season 16-8 after falling to #3 The Master's in 3 sets. It was a back-and-forth battle that the Mustangs were able to hang on to in the end. There were 14 scoring ties in the first set which set the tone for the entire game. It is hard to compete against a team who only made 8 attack errors across the 3 sets. Menlo still was able to land 42 kills on The Master's hitting at .342% as a team.

Leader's on the Stat Sheet

Edin Ibrahimovic and Konrad Stoklosinski each tallied 10 kills at the top of the Oak's list. Ibrahimovic also added a solo block, a dig, and an assist while Stoklosinski contributed 2 assists and 2 digs. Gabriel Knittel had himself a match landing 9 kills for a .727 hitting percentage. He also had a block assist against The Master's. Julius Stiemer led the Oaks in blocks with 2 assists and a solo block. Christian Menchaca was a solid libero for the Oaks all year and showed it again today as the digs leader with 8. Lucas Larson did his job by dishing 35 of the Oaks 39 assists and also added 8 digs. It was an all-out brawl with The Master's and despite dropping the match, Menlo still put on an applaudable performance to end their season.

Thank you Seniors!
It is most certainly the end of an era for the Oaks losing 6 of their star seniors after this ride.

Konrad Stoklosinski completes his senior season titled NAIA All-American and also part of the GSAC 1st Team All-Conference team. He was first in the GSAC with 46 service aces, third in conference with 317 kills, .376 hitting percentage, and overall points with 374.5.

Edin Ibrahimovic ends his senior run with 247 kills and is third in the conference with 12 solo blocks. Ibrahimovic walks away from Menlo being named GSAC Freshman of the Year in 2019, GSAC Player of the Year in 2020, NAIA All-American in 2020, and part of the GSAC All-Conference team in 2019 and 2020. Edin battled back from a traumatic injury in 2022 and showed true grit on the court the entire season. He will be missed dearly by the Oaks!

Lucas Larson left it all on the court in his senior season totaling 820 assists in 22 matches to be first in the GSAC. He also added 144 digs, 23 total blocks, 13 service aces, and 21 kills for the Oaks. He was named NAIA Setter of the Week twice and GSAC Setter of the Week four different times within the 2023 season. Larson leaves Menlo proudly with GSAC All-Conference and NAIA All-American titles under his belt.

Despite battling through injury most of his senior season, Chase Direito continued to help lead the Oaks. Chase contributed 85 kills for a .439 hitting percentage, 16 digs, and 39 total blocks. Direito was named to the All-GSAC team and All-American in 2019, 2020, and 2022. In 2020 he was also named to the USA Volleyball Men's Collegiate National Team. His career is just getting started however as he is in talks to go play professionally overseas in Europe!

Christian Menchaca was the starting libero for the Oaks all year working through an injury early on in the season. He played in 19 matches totaling 126 digs, 346 receptions, and 26 assists in his senior run. Christian was a valuable member to Menlo and helped lead the Oaks to their first NAIA Nationals appearance this season.

The final senior that the Oaks say farewell to is Josh Sullivan. He added 30 kills, 6 assists, 6 service aces, 52 digs, and 11 total blocks in 16 match appearances. Sullivan is expecting to play professionally over the summer while he decides his next step in his career!
