Atherton, CA- In the midst of gloomy weather and potential rain Menlo Softball took on the visiting Arizona Christian Firestorm in a weekend doubleheader. Having upset #19 OUAZ in their previous matchup the Oaks looked to keep the momentum going. Unfortunately, ACU's pitching proved a tough challenge and the Oaks fell in both games.
Game 1: Menlo-0, ACU 5
In the first game of the day Menlo faced down one of the GSAC's top pitchers in ACU's Savannah Smith. While offense was hard to come by, the middle of the order did find some success with Emma Wilson, Jolena Velasquez, Emma Medina & Alyssa Rodne each recording a hit. Defensively, Menlo was solid for much of the day. All five runs for the Firestorm were scored in the second inning yet Menlo only allowed three hits after that point.
Game 2: Menlo-1, ACU-6
During the second contest of the day Menlo still struggled to make contact at the plate. But, they still found ways to get players on base and score. Hailey Roloff was the only Oak to secure a hit in the box score but Bella Cortez did drive in a run thanks to a sacrifice fly. Thanks to a few hit players hit by pitches, Menlo also managed to get Maya Bivens-Sommerville, Alexandra Attard and Alyssa Rodne on base as well. Lastly, Roloff and Attard also each stole a base during the game.

Menlo is back on Wunderlich Field this coming Tuesday against the visiting Jessup Warriors. At 2-2 in conference play the Oaks are still firmly in position to climb up the GSAC standings. While it wasn't the outlook Menlo fans were hoping for on this misty Saturday, there are still plenty of positives to take away after a solid week of softball.
