Atherton, California- Menlo Women's Basketball secured their third straight win Thursday night defeating the visiting OUAZ Spirit 84-53. It was all Oaks from the jump with Menlo holding a 10 point lead after the first quarter of play. By the final buzzer the Oaks would not only have secured the win but see 11 different players record at least one bucket.
Dominant Night by Oaks Bigs
Kiara Brown and Jordyn Rosette formed a dominant duo for Menlo. The pair would combine for 41 points while hitting 16 of 22 shots. Brown continues to show why she is one of the premier players in the conference. On top of her 23 points she pulled down 11 rebounds. Rosette remains the top defensive option for coach Spataro. She would come away with four steals and a block in just 21 minutes of action.
Setting the Tone on Defense
Over the last month of play defense has been a critical part of the Oaks strong play. Against the Spirit, Menlo once again buckled down on the less glamorous side of the ball. As a team the Oaks forced 25 turnovers and came away with 16 steals. Rosette, Hunter Boske and Nura Galmes all recorded four steals. They would also hold the Spirit to 35% shooting from the field and 23% from behind the arc.
Everyone Chipping In
This win was a total team effort. Not only did every starter manage to put points on the board but the second unit also knocked down shots. Hunter Boske, Alberte Frisch, Aliya Hunter and Lauryn Vogt would all hit at least one three pointer. Freshman Mehkia Applewhite also tied her season high in points with six alongside two rebounds and a steal.
Up Next…
The Oaks will wrap up their three game home stand against Arizona Christian this Saturday at 12 PM. Menlo defeated ACU 73-60 in their last matchup and only trail Vanguard by one game in the standings. If the Oaks can make a late season push and catch the Lions, it could mean a first round bye in the coming GSAC Conference Tournament!
