#21 WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATED BY #18 WESTCLIFF

Atherton, California- Menlo Women's Tennis has had their season delayed multiple times due to weather conditions. Yet, without any matches under the belt, the Oaks went toe to toe against the #18 Westcliff Warriors. While the Oaks were defeated, they battled for hours against their highly ranked opponents.

Niederle & Vlasceanu Pick Up Wins

Similar to the men, Menlo's women were unable to secure a match victory in the doubles portion of the contest. Once singles play began both Andrea Vlasceanu & Franziska Niederle got the Oaks on the scoreboard. Vlasceanu controlled her match from the first serve. The Madrid native won her first set 6-2 before winning the second 6-4. Niederle's matches were closer but nonetheless she secured the win. Niederle would win via a score of 6-4 followed by 7-5.

Valentina Urelli Rinaldi & Anthea Weiland Refuse to Quit

On the other hand, two Oaks would showcase a huge amount of endurance, focus and grit as they endured long, back and forth sets. Senior Valentina Urelli Rinaldi and her opponent would end up playing three full sets with Urelli Rinaldi falling just short. Weiland had lost her first set but rallied to win the second 6-4. Her match would finish with a score of 5-5 as the Oaks would concede the match before a conclusion. These two Oaks should be proud of the fight they displayed despite a drawn out, long last match.

Up Next…

The Oaks should be proud of their effort to start the season. Without any opportunities to play beforehand, Menlo played a top opponent well. The team will now turn their attention to the Hope International Royals coming to town for a match on Saturday!
