Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Drew Barton

Menlo Men’s Basketball Wins 7th Straight With 91-71 Victory Over Lincoln University

Atherton, CA-Menlo Men's Basketball picked up their 7th straight victory to move to 10-1 on the season with a decisive 20 point victory over visiting Lincoln University. Lincoln, coached by NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton overcame a 27 point Menlo lead to only trail by seven points heading into the half. Yet, coach Rooney's squad responded by winning the second half of action 43-30 to secure another win and protect their home court.

Landon Seaman Takesover

Now 11 games into the season and Landon Seaman's ascension as a high caliber offensive force has continued with a full head of steam. All the 6'8 center did was score a game high 29 points and grab 10 rebounds enroute to his third double-double of the season. With the game on the verge of becoming tightly contested Seaman opened the second half with eight straight points including a rim rocking dunk that sparked the entire gym into a roar. For the season Seaman is up to 22.7 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. His shooting percentage for the season now sits at 65% with 11 games in the books. If you are a fan of hoops, you owe it to yourself to see the big man tear up opposing players in the post at some point this season.

Blackwell & Williams Control the Perimeter

While Seaman made his presence felt in the paint, Eric Blackwell and Kaito Williams put together solid outings at the guard positions for the Oaks. Williams did a little bit of everything in his 28 minutes of playing time. Most will look at his 15 points including the dagger three point shot with under a minute on the clock to push the score up to 20 points. Yet, it was is work on the defensive end that should garner attention as well. Williams guarded a variety of players from Lincoln from quick guards to strong wing players. In doing so he picked up three steals and grabbed four rebounds.

Eric Blackwell was the "Player of the Game" last week against Bethesda University for his breakout performance in leading the second unit. Once again he was the Oaks leader off the bench and played an incredibly efficient game across 20 minutes of action. Blackwell hit all three of his shots for the game but most impressively provided outstanding playmaking for the Oaks as a primary ball handler. He dished out five assists while only committing one turnover. He was also incredibly active on the defensive end with a game high four steals that led to transition scoring opportunities for the Oaks all game long.

Up Next…

Menlo continues their string of home games with a rematch against Pacific Union College on December 16th. The Pioneers and Oaks faced off earlier this season with Menlo pulling off the 95-83 victory. Look to coach Rooney and the boys to defend homecourt and get to 11-1 to kickstart their season!
