The ball didn't bounce in favor of Menlo Men's Basketball as they fell to Vanguard in a close contest. The Oaks came out firing on all cylinders in the first half. Behind Brayden Iuli's 5-5 shooting Menlo started the game hitting 55% of their field goals and 38% of their threes. Unfortunately, the tables would turn as Vanguard found their shooting stroke in the second half. The Lions would catch fire from three hitting 7-11 attempts from behind the arc. Ultimately, it would be a late three pointer from Garrett White with 30 seconds remaining that would give the Lions the lead.
Harrison Bonner's play over his last two outings continues to be a bright spot for the Oaks. The senior guard is now averaging 17 points over his last two contests as well as hitting 59% of his threes on 12 attempts. Fellow senior Corey Le'aupepe has also been a solid sixth man option for coach Rooney. He would score eight points while shooting 3-4 from the field. He also would add nine rebounds and three assists as well. Le'aupepe continues to push towards his 1000 career points as well.Â
This loss now makes it three in a row for the Oaks. All three contests have been close, coming down to the final few possessions. With Life Pacific on deck, Menlo will look to snap this small skid and return to the win column on January 28th at 2 PM PT. Follow the action live at the streaming link below1
