Supporting two wins in the first two matches of the season, Menlo Men’s Soccer senior goalkeeper Martin Fiala provided resilient defense for the Oaks’ 5-1 goal differential.
Martin handled all 180 minutes in goal for Menlo, first registering six saves with numerous diving stops to preserve a 1-0 victory over Cal State East Bay in the season opener. He then worked with the Oaks defense to keep Cal Poly Humboldt scoreless for 89 minutes, collecting four saves in the 4-1 triumph over the weekend. Martin finished with 10 saves on the week, a .909 save percentage, and his sixth career shutout, tying him in the record books for sixth in program history. Fiala’s leadership set himself up to be named PacWest Defender of the Week and the rest of the Oaks to earn the PacWest Conference Team of the Week.
