Koala Matsuoka began as began as Menlo Women's Volleyball Assistant Coach in August 2024.
In her 2024 debut season with the Oaks, Menlo finished 9-18 overall and was particularly tough to beat at home with more than half their wins coming inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion. The Oaks demonstrated grit and tenacity by taking at least one set from 18 of its opponents, logging six Pacific West Conference victories in its first year as new members, and producing an All-PacWest Team honoree in Hannah Torres along the way. Off the court, the squad collectively posted a 3.70 GPA to lead all Oaks women's sport programs, ending with its first AVCA Team Academic Award as a NCAA Division II institution. Two of the 10 Oaks who earned Academic All-PacWest honors were also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Matsuoka's distinguished career in volleyball includes playing at George Mason University and the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. She has also dedicated eight years to coaching at Kamehameha Schools, overseeing both varsity and JV teams, and has five years of experience coaching at various club volleyball teams.
Matsuoka also served as a Student Services Coordinator for the Hawaii Department of Education at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Her role in student services highlighted her dedication to supporting and guiding young students. On top of her many talents, Matsuoka is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and practices telehealth therapy, bringing a unique perspective to her coaching approach that emphasizes mental well-being and holistic development.
