Kevin Doherty began as Head Coach for Menlo Weightlifting in December 2023.

Since taking the helm:
  • Qualified 14 student-athletes at USAWL University Nationals since 2023
  • Placed "Best in the West" 7th place as a team in 2025 USAWL University National Championships with 9 qualified
  • 2 student-athletes earn individual USAWL National Championship recognitions 2025 (James Woodley and Jade Morales)
  • 1 student-athlete appearance at the Junior Pan-American Games 2025 (Jade Morales/Silver Medal)
  • 2 Hawaii State Championship titles (Ryan Padron and Jon Brooks)
  • Executed programs first-ever multi-platform competition inside Haynes-Prim Pavilion
  • Placed 10th place as a team in 2026 USAWL University National Championships with 13 qualified (2 All-Americans/Ryan Padron and Jade Morales)

A 2016 Olympic Coach for Team USA and one of the most respected figures in the sport, Doherty has dedicated his career to growing weightlifting while mentoring athletes to reach their highest potential.

Doherty's coaching journey has taken him across the world from developing Olympians representing three different countries to leading American athletes at seven Senior World Championships. Along the way, his excellence has been recognized with honors such as the 2018 USA Weightlifting Women's Coach of the Year. For Doherty, however, the true measure of success has always been about athlete development and creating opportunities for lifters to excel.
