Joey Bareng

Bareng has been the Head Coach for the Menlo College Women’s wrestling program since 2013. Since then he has helped coach 19 different athletes to All-American status, including 6 different National Champions. In the 2018-2019 season the team captured the WCWA National Team title and also won the first ever NAIA Invitational National Team title. These were the first National Championships in Menlo’s school history. He was also awarded 3 National Coach of the year awards from the WCWA, NAIA, and NWCA.


As a native of Hawaii, Bareng has been coaching wrestling since 2005. He has a plethora of experience in the sport including: Assistant Wrestling Coach for San Francisco state for two years, Head Wrestling Coach for the freshmen team at Riordian High school, Assistant Varsity Coach at Riordian High School, and Strength and Conditioning Coach at Riordian High School.
As a wrestler, Bareng was a four-year standout at NCAA DII San Francisco State University from 2000-2004. During that span he was a RMAC West Regional Champion and NCAA All-American. In addition to his time at SFSU, Bareng also garnered National and world titles as a Jiu-jitsu practitioner and held a National power lifting record for some time. He also competed as a professional MMA athlete for over 4 years.
