Wildcat Classic Results (Round 1 & 2)
MARYSVILLE, Calif. – The lowest rounds in program history (7-under-par 281 and 8-under-par 280) as well as the best singular round of junior
Ryan Bello's collegiate career highlighted a strong first day for Menlo Men's Golf in Chico State's Wildcat Classic as the Oaks opened the season with multiple exciting debuts, four scores under par through two rounds, and a sixth-place position in the competitive season-opening tournament on Monday.
Bello, Pagliughi Vying For Team's Top Spot Two Rounds In
Even through his first six holes of the day, Bello steadily dropped his score with a pair of birdies thereafter toward an eventual 1-under-par 71 in his opening round. The second 18 for the Santa Rosa native was one to watch as he began with six birdies across the front nine then added two more in the final four holes for a two-stroke improvement on his career-best round, closing with a 5-under-par 67 to tie him for 11th overall. The effort matched the lowest in program history, joining him in a share of the best mark with
Colin Casey (2016-17) and
Jacob Flogstad (2022-23).
Freshman
Cesare Pagliughi sprinkled his birdies throughout both rounds, logging five in the first of his collegiate career for a 2-under-par 70 then bettering that mark the second time with a 3-under-par 69 that saw impressive consistency down the stretch with eight consecutive pars following four birdies early on to put him one stroke back of Bello in a tie for 14th. Also in the red, senior
Cole Kroeker carded a pair of 1-under-par 71 scores with nine birdies of his own for a top-27 result and sophomore
Chase Yukawa, who opened with a 3-under-par 69 highlighted by five birdies, closed at 1-under-par in a five-way deadlock for 33rd in the 72-golfer field.
