PacWest Conference Championship Results (Round 1)
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV – The opening round of the Pacific West Conference Championship was highlighted by freshman
Kim Penzold logging one of two under-par scores in the 40-golfer field as Menlo Women's Golf began in sixth place overall 18 holes in at Aliante Golf Club on Monday.
Just Two Strokes Separate Penzold From Leader
Starting bright and early, Penzold either parred or birdied her first five holes and was the picture of consistency through her back nine, totaling eight pars and one birdie in that span. Ultimately, she finished Monday with a 2-under-par 70, putting her second overall and just two strokes behind tournament leader Westmont's Hannah Camara.
In her first action since late February, freshman
Ester Otiepkova was the next Oak qualifier, finishing day one at an 8-over-par 80 in sole possession of 24th overall. The final two thus far were senior
Angelina Pohahau (9-over-par 81) and sophomore
Kayla Lancaster (10-over-par 82) both inside the top 30.
