Menlo Opens PacWest Championship Tourney With Tough Quarterfinal Rematch Versus Sunbirds

SURPRISE, AZ –
Facing a familiar foe in their Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament debut, No. 39 Menlo Women's Tennis debuted in the tourney quarterfinals by battling back before ultimately dropping a 4-2 result to No. 29 Fresno Pacific on Wednesday at Surprise Tennis Center.

Jovic, Robilliart Continue Winning Ways
Though juniors Polya Nikolova and Nia Macay were in front 4-3 on Court 3, the doubles point was won by Fresno Pacific and the Sunbirds' lead grew to 3-0 in the start of singles play. Freshman Gloria Jovic put the Oaks on the scoreboard with her 6-2, 6-1 domination of Margarita Muñoz on Court 4 then PacWest Newcomer of the Year sophomore Ombeline Robilliart furthered the program's single-season wins record to 14 with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Jessica McLean on Court 5. Though Menlo had an opportunity to complete the comeback having taken the opening sets on Court 1 and Court 3, FPU managed to rally for the match victory in a third set on the former.

Moving into the consolation bracket tomorrow at 1 p.m., Menlo will rematch Stanislaus State, who fell to No. 14 Azusa Pacific today, as the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournament continues on.
