CHICO, CA – Continuing her recent success, Menlo Women's Golf freshman
Kim Penzold has put herself in position to capture another individual title as she holds a three-stroke lead on the next closest competitor while the Oaks are fourth overall through the opening round of the Chico State's Wildcat Invitational out at Butte Creek Country Club following Monday's action.
Leaderboard Shows Penzold Ahead Of 30 Others To Start
A grand total of four birdies were among the highlights for Penzold in her 1-over-par 73 through the first 18 holes in Chico. Three of those came during a five-hole stretch as she approached her final stop while her closest competitor, Seattle Pacific's Lauren Lee, finished on six straight pars for a 4-over-par 76.
Just outside the 31-golfer field's top 10 is junior
Julia Torrez after a pair of early birdies helped her card a 9-over-par 81 and tie for 12th on day one. Senior
Angelina Pohahau can be found tied with one other for 18th following her 12-over-par 84 and sophomore
Kayla Lancaster rounds out the qualifiers for Menlo at 14-over-par 86 in a share for 22nd.
