ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Tennis took care of business on Friday out at Wunderlich Tennis Courts, besting Stanton 5-2 despite unpredictable weather causing more than a three-hour delay. Nevertheless, a hard-fought doubles point was paired with three singles wins in straight sets for the Oaks' third home victory of the year.
Forger, McAlpine, Espinosa Navarro Shine In Efficient Singles Action
The doubles matchup results were all well-earned as senior
Duarte Brito and junior
Robin McAlpine first topped Matthias Bigot and Egor Pischeley 6-4 on Court 2 before the Elks countered with a tiebreaker on Court 3. That meant it was up to graduate students
Erkin Tootoonchi Moghaddam and
Ian Ramiro Perez on Court 1 where another tiebreaker went the way of the Oaks 7-6 (7-3) who defeated Oleksandr Kolesnychenko and Lemiel Kei.
Starting singles, sophomore
Tijl Forger quickly helped Menlo add to that 1-0 advantage with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Yohann Molee on Court 3 then freshman
David Espinosa Navarro provided a 7-5, 6-4 win against Pischeley on Court 2. The match's end result was decided when McAlpine got the better of Kolesnychenko 6-3, 6-1 on Court 1, but graduate student
Galien Del Vecchio added a three-set triumph (2-6, 6-0, 6-2) over Sebastian Koster on Court 5 for good measure in what would be a 5-2 final.
