Box Score

LA MIRADA, CA –
After a narrow tiebreaker decided the doubles point, Menlo Men's Tennis attempted a comeback in a trio of three-set battles, but Friday saw UH Hilo come away 6-1 winners at Biola Tennis Center.

Forger Fights Back In Singles Play
After Court 2 and Court 3 shared 6-3 scores, the former in favor of junior Robin McAlpine and freshman David Espinosa Navarro, the doubles point came down to a battle between Jaden Williams and David Krnavek and senior Asger Emil Ildor and graduate student Ian Ramiro Perez. A 7-5 tiebreaker ended up settling the 7-6 score in the Vulcans' favor moving into singles action.

Early wins on Court 1 and Court 6 continued to keep UH Hilo in control, but out of the three-set matchups that followed, sophomore Tijl Forger had the answer. He outlasted Matthieu Wehner 6-4, 7-5, 10-8 on Court 5, but the margin could have been much slimmer had the extremely competitive pairing of Asger Emil Ildor and Max Solano gone differently than the 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-4 result for the latter or a closely-contested third set between Espinosa Navarro and Filippo Di Perna been but a few points in the other direction instead of the 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 final.

Up Next
With one week off from competition, Menlo now turns attention to Illinois State whom the Oaks will host on Friday, Mar. 13 at noon.
