FRESNO, CA – Menlo Men's Tennis and Fresno Pacific met for the first time since a nail-biting win for the Oaks back on
Feb. 7, but on this occasion the Sunbirds had the upper hand, prevailing 5-2 at their own Haak Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Doubles Determined On Tiebreaker
After the tandem of junior
Henry Riccioni-Brown and senior
Duarte Brito bested Tim Bangert and Felix Devallius 6-3 on Court 3, the doubles point was left to be decided on Court 1. Action between junior
Robin McAlpine and freshman
David Espinosa Navarro and FPU's Cedric Kaufman and Joaquin Salinas was all even at 6-6, prompting an equally close tiebreaker that ultimately ended in the Sunbirds' favor 7-6 (7-5).
Espinosa Navarro and McAlpine would both end up winners in singles play, beginning with the former who topped Angel Espana in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 on Court 3. The match was briefly even at 2-2 following McAlpine's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Kaufman on Court 1, but the remaining pairings were all taken by Fresno Pacific for the eventual 5-2 final score.
