SAN FRANCISCO, CA – A combined 16 runs came home for Menlo NCBA Baseball out at Benedetti Diamond on Sunday with the Oaks firing on all cylinders in victories of 4-1 and 12-0 on each side of the doubleheader at San Francisco. Junior
Aidan Mitchell and freshman
Ashley Geary-Smith dazzled on the mound in the respective contests while key early rallies in game one gave way to 10 hits for Menlo in a series finale loaded with offense.
Game One: Menlo 4, San Francisco 1
First to the scoreboard in the opening inning, Mitchell's sacrifice fly gave the Oaks a 1-0 advantage which the Dons quickly matched in their half of the inning. In the second frame, freshman
Oscar Reyes provided a run on a groundout and soon the eventual winning margin of 4-1 came on a pair of run-scoring singles by Mitchell and Geary-Smith in the third.
The one run allowed was all for USF as Mitchell surrendered just two hits and two walks while striking out 10 before senior
Billy McKinzey finished off the game with 1.2 shutout innings that featured no hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
Game Two: Menlo 12, San Francisco 0 (6)
Following a similar script as the series opener, game three began steadily with Mitchell helping the Oaks strike in the top of the first before a sacrifice fly from freshman
Ryan Wilson made it 2-0.
Though the game became a pitcher's duel thereafter with Geary-Smith allowing just one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts through five shutout frames, Menlo opened up the contest in the sixth. Junior
Joseph Salmeron doubled in a run, Wilson singled in another, freshman
Jeremy Marquez drove in two with a single (part of his three-hit performance), and sophomore
Ray Omne added one RBI all during a six-run rally that powered the 12-0 final score in six innings.
