AVILA BEACH, CA – The first match of a trio in Southern California for Menlo Men's Tennis saw freshman Nima Trips earn a straight-sets victory in his collegiate debut as the Oaks topped Ventura College 4-3 at Avila Bay Racquet Club on Sunday evening.

Going down the line in doubles play, Menlo secured the wins the Oaks needed with junior Robin McAlpine and freshman David Espinosa Navarro combining for a 6-2 result on Court 1 and graduate student Ian Ramiro Perez joining junior Henry Riccioni-Brown for a 6-3 victory on Court 3.

The doubles point proved crucial as Menlo gained a 2-0 advantage on an early Pirate retirement in singles, but Ventura College took the first of what would be three singles wins thereafter. Trips put away his Court 5 opponent 6-3, 6-3 in a strong first match then senior Robinson Pelluault sealed the match triumph on Court 1 by way of a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 clincher.
