Muir and Fritts Earn Titles at Cerritos Women's Open

NORWALK, CA – NCWA Women's Wrestling took on the 4th Cerritos College Open and made a statement across some of California's best collegiate wrestlers, coming out with 2 champions and a top 5 placer.

Tournament Placers

Lastevia Muir secured the 131 pound title in one of the most dominant showings across the tournament. Muir opened with back-to-back technical falls In her opening two matches before securing a pin in 1:20 in the quarterfinal bout. She continued her bonus point streak with an 11-0 technical fall in the semifinals and capped off her amazing run with a fall in the second period over Bella Llamas of Mt. SAC in the finals, claiming her first ever collegiate tournament title.
 
Neila Fritts followed in the 235lb weight class with an equally impressive performance. Fritts opened with a lightning-quick 25-second pin over Natalia Cervantes in the first round, then tallied on another pin in the following round, this time in 1:26 of the first period. Fritts would then advance to the final after earning an injury default in the semis. The veteran would then secure the championship title with her third fall of the tournament, pinning Isabel Zepeda in 2:22.
 
The Oaks added their final placement of the tournament thanks to Kayla Zeidler taking 5th place. After dropping her second-round match, Zeidler responded with an impressive spark on the backside. She would go on to earn three consecutive falls, along with a technical fall to power into the placement rounds. Zeidler ultimately secured a fifth-place finish with yet another fall in the final match of the tournament.

The Oaks will aim to take on Modesto Junior College on February 22 inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion for a dual at 5PM.
