Menlo Wrestling Dominates NCWA CA State Tournament with 14 Placers

FRESNO, CA – The Menlo Men's Wrestling team delivered a commanding performance at the NCWA California State Tournament and placed 14 wrestlers in the top three, using the event as a powerful final tune-up before heading into postseason competition.
 
Young Guns Lead the Way
The 133lb bracket completely belonged to the Oaks, with freshman Noah Koyama claimed two falls before his finals match where he went on to claim first place. Roberto Lopez would go on to claim second place behind his teammate as they met in the finals. Senior Michael Torres put on an absolute offensive masterclass on the mat on his way to the title. Torres would outscore his opponents 54-7 in three matches, picking up tech falls in each match.
 
Ivan Acosta would earn three bonus point victories to earn himself the title at 149lbs, with Tyger Taam also picking up three bonus point wins while also earning second place. Ezekiel Lara was a pinning machine on the day, collecting three falls to pave his way to the title. Kanaipono Tapia and Quentin Harding owned the 165lb weight class, with Tapia collecting multiple tech falls while Harding added bonus-point bonus-point wins of his own. Tapia would claim the title while Harding would earn a well-battled second place.
 
184lbs was another weight where the Oaks completed outclassed the field. Freshman Nicholas Hernandez captured the title while Joseph Estrada claimed second and Mathias Collins claiming third. The final two placers for Menlo came at heavyweight, where it was another 1-2-3 finish. Javier Martinez claimed the title while Luke Randazzo earned second, and Emitt Mercado would claim a third place finish.

With momentum in the Oaks favor, the post season begins at home on March 14th for the NCWA WCC Championships, with wrestling starting bright and early at 9AM.
