MONTEREY, CA – Out at Frank E. Sollecito Ballpark on Friday, Menlo NCBA Baseball had key contributions come from up and down the lineup as the Oaks pushed past UC Santa Cruz 4-1 for their fourth consecutive win to start the 2026 season.
Mitchell Shines On Both Sides Yet Again
A pitchers' duel between junior
Aidan Mitchell and Sean Conaway for the first 3.0 innings lasted until a double by Kevin Cabrera Cota put UC Santa Cruz on the board in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Menlo rallied back into the lead after a 13-pitch bases-loaded walk drawn by senior
Billy McKinzey made it 1-1. Freshman
Tylon Law Jr. then grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring the go-ahead run.
Mitchell earned the win for the Oaks after allowing just one run on four hits over 5.1 innings while striking out five and walking none. He was supported in relief by freshman
Ashley Geary-Smith who collected the first save of his collegiate career.
Additionally, Mitchell went 2-for-3 with one run batted in at the plate to lead the Oaks in hits while McKinzey, Law Jr., and freshman
Ryan Wilson each drove in one run for the Oaks.
Up Next…
With the remainder of their series pushed back to Apr. 25, the Oaks will turn their attention to a road series at Cal Poly Humboldt spanning Mar. 7-8 in Arcata.
