Oaks Sweep Tri-Dual Against Sac City and Simpson

SACRAMENTO, CA -The NCWA Menlo Women's Wrestling program delivered a dominant performance on the road, earning dominant wins against Simpson and Sacramento City College in a tri-dual hosted by the Panthers. The event featured three different collegiate associations, with Menlo associated as an NCWA program, Simpson representing the NAIA, and Sac City out of the CCCAA.
 
Menlo vs Simpson, 45-5
The Oaks opened their evening with a commanding 45-5 victory over the Redhawks. Megene Abdalla set the tone for the entire night by securing a first period fall to give the Oaks an immediate boost. Menlo dropped a tightly contested 110lb bout by pin, but quickly regained control of the dual. Simpson would end up forfeiting five consecutive bouts to push the Oaks out to a 30-5 advantage.
 
Leia Hernandez added to the momentum with a fall at 160, earning the pin in 3:21. The Oaks picked up another forfeit at 180 before Jessica Mendieta closed out the dual in emphatic fashion with a 20 second pin at 207, securing the Oaks 45-5 win.
 
Menlo vs Sac City, 40-8
The Oaks carried the momentum quickly into the next dual against Sac City, with Abdalla sparking the Oaks up with an early pin, making it her second bonus point victory of the night. At 110 Lina Perez followed with a quick 43-second pin to give the Oaks a 10-0 cushion. Maya Barrios kept the pressure at 117, scoring two takedowns and three turns to record a 10-0 technical fall. Sac City halted the Oaks run with a narrow criteria decision at 124, but the Oaks responded quickly in the following bouts.
 
Lastevia Muir reignited the spark with a fall in 2:11 at 131lbs, with Gwen Thomkins adding three team points with a composed 8-0 decision at 138. Kayla Zeidler followed with a pin at 145, while Hernandez picked up her second fall of the night with a second-period pin at 160. The Oaks added a forfeit at 180 before Mendieta delivered again at 207, earning a fall just before the two-minute mark of the first period. The dual concluded with the Oaks giving 235 to Sac City with the final dual score ending in the Oaks favor 40-8.

The Oaks will now look towards the NCWA California State Tournament on February 28 in Fresno, CA before heading into post season action in March.
