Menlo College Weightlifting Claims Two State Titles at 2025 Hawaii State Championships

1/9/2026 10:00:00 AM

MAUI, HI – Two Menlo College Weightlifters showcased dominant performances at the 2025 Hawaii State Championships back in their hometown of Hawaii and returned with two state championships. Ryan Padron and Jon Brooks each captured first place in their respective divisions, highlighting the program's continued success on the platform.

Ryan Padron – 79kg Champion

Ryan Padron claimed the Open Men's 79kg State Championship with a resilient and well-executed performance. He opened the snatch with an easy 101kg lift, narrowly missed at 106kg, and then delivered under pressure with a successful 107kg on his final attempt. In the clean and jerk, Padron stayed composed, making solid lifts at 145kg and 150kg. He closed the competition by attempting a 155kg personal record, successfully completing the clean before just missing the jerk. His performance secured him first place in a competitive field and capped off a strong showing in his hometown.

Jon Brooks – 110+ Champion

Jon Brooks earned the Junior Men's 110+ State Championship with consistency and confidence across both lifts. In the snatch, Brooks made his first two attempts at 60kg and 65kg before going for a 72kg personal record, which was ruled a no lift due to a press out. Brooks responded impressively in the clean and jerk, going a perfect 3-for-3 with successful lifts at 80kg, 87kg, and 93kg. His flawless clean and jerk series secured the title and capped off a championship performance.

Menlo College Weightlifting extends a special thank you to Dwayne Deang for counting during the meet for the Oak competitors and to Coach Vernon of Hi Performance, Ryan Padron's hometown coach, for hosting the 2025 Hawaii State Championships.
