Gonzalez Leads Offense as Oaks Battle Against Lindenwood

SAINT CHARLES, MO – The Menlo Men's Volleyball program took on Lindenwood for their final game at the Under Armour Challenge inside of the Robert F. Hyland Arena, falling in straight sets against the Lions.
 
Set-by-Set Recap
The Oaks competed early against the Lions in the first set to take the first lead of the match. A new face in Gavin Gonzalez saw the starting lineup for the first time in his Menlo career. Gonzalez, Ty Carson and Gonzalez would each earn multiple kills to try and keep the Oaks offense flowing but Lindenwood's strong offense proved too much and took the first set 25-17.
 
In the second, Lindenwood gained momentum behind the service line and capitalized on transition opportunities as the Oaks were trying to find a sliver of offense openings while trying to battle defensively, dropping the set 25-11.
 
The third set was the most competitive, with Kai Van Haaren making his first start in the set as well as Zane Scwartz and Owen Altadonna. Despite Van Haaren trying to provide a different flow on offense while obtaining three kills, the Oaks continued to struggle to find any sort of run and would end up dropping the set 25-19 to end their time at Under Armour Challenge.
 
Oaks Performances
  • Gavin Gonzalez led the Oaks in kills with 4 on the night while obtaining 4 digs defensively.
  • Zane Swarts and Owen Altadonna made their collegiate debuts in the third set
  • Kai Van Harren and Ty Carson earned three kills each, falling right behind Gonzalez
 
Up Next
The Oaks will return home on Friday, January 23, to host the Bay Area Dimes in an exhibition match at 6PM, before turning their focus to a rematch with UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, February 7, at 5PM in the West Field House in Santa Cruz, CA.
