Menlo Showcases New Talent in Home Opener Against No. 12 Lewis

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Volleyball opened their 2026 season inside of Haynes-Prim Pavilion against the #12 ranked Flyers of Lewis University, showing flashes of rhythm and resilience despite a straight-set result. The Oaks continued to settle in their new lineup as the match progress, pushing Lewis in the final two sets and demonstrated improvement throughout the night.

Key Oak Performances
Finding Rythym
The opening set saw the Oaks working to find their footing against the Flyers. Going point-for-point early in the set, the Flyers would end up jumping to a mid-set lead, going up 11-18 at the halfway point. Setter Xavier Cordova would sub in to change the rhythm, helping Ty Carson and Garrett Hockman to earn a couple kills. The set concluded 25-15 in favor of Lewis, with the Oaks using the opening set to help solidify their lineup.

Menlo showed clear improvement in the second set, trading points more consistently and tightening up defensively. Gabriel Ocasio Lopez would sub in as the main setter for the rest of the match, helping the Oaks keep Lewis within reach through much of the set while Mark Ensalaco would go on to lead Menlo's attack in the set with 5 kills. As the score tightened late, Lewis would go on to hold the Oaks comeback and take the set 25-23.

The final set mirrored the intensity of the second, with both teams going on extended rallies. The Oaks continued to apply pressure to Lewis, forcing multiple lead changes while going on a five-point swing towards the end of the set to go up 17-15. The Oaks would hold onto the lead with eyes on taking the third set, however Lewis would replicate the Oak's five-point swing to take the set 25-23 to end the match.
