DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Menlo Taekwondo made its mark at the 2025 U.S. Season Final & Sport Festival earlier this month, with freshmen Christina Chavez and Jaslyn Yu-Hian stepping up in a big way. Both athletes returned to Atherton with medals and strong statements about the future of the program.
Chavez Strikes Gold
Competing in the Female Bantamweight division (49.1 kg – 53 kg), Christina Chavez delivered a standout performance, entering the bracket as the fifth seed. The Las Vegas native opened her run with a clean two-round sweep over fourth-seeded Ariana Christensen of Core Taekwondo Performance in the quarterfinals. In the semis, she upset the top seed, Valerie Larson, also in straight rounds. The final proved just as impressive, as Chavez edged out No. 2 seed Monique Villasenor, once again winning both rounds to claim the gold medal.
Yu-Hian Takes Bronze
Jaslyn Yu-Hian competed in the Female Flyweight division (46.1 kg – 49 kg) and faced a tough draw. She went up against top-seeded Elizabeth Li in the semifinal, putting up a strong effort before falling in two rounds. The performance was enough to secure a bronze medal in her national-level debut. With a gold and bronze under their belts, both freshmen have made an immediate impact for the new program.Â
