ATHERTON, CA – Menlo College Women's Basketball is proud to announce the signing of Makolla Bagayegou, a dynamic 5'9 guard from Gothenburg, Sweden. A transfer from Houston Christian University, Makolla joins the Oaks as a junior and will major in International Business.

Makolla brings both international and collegiate experience to the Menlo backcourt. A standout in Sweden's national basketball scene, she was named MVP of the Youth Sweden Regional Championship in 2022-23 and twice earned Player of the Week honors in the Swedish Basketball League. She posted impressive averages with her U19 club team, Högsbo Basket, scoring 16.3 points per game, alongside 8.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

At Houston Christian University, she made her presence known early, recording a career-high 19 points during her freshman campaign against Northwestern State.

"Menlo welcomed me with open arms," Makolla said. "The tight-knit campus community made me feel like I belonged. Both the team and the staff just flourished with good vibes, which made my decision easy."

Off the court, Makolla enjoys baking, photography, walks, and creative crafts—bringing the same energy and attention to detail she shows in basketball. She draws inspiration from her favorite teams, the Houston Rockets and Högsbo Basket, and continues to bring that competitive spirit and passion into her game.

"We're excited to add a guard with Makolla's experience and versatility," said Head Coach Shannon Spataro. "She plays with intensity, creativity, and leadership. Her background at both the international and collegiate levels will make an immediate impact on our program."

Welcome to Menlo, Makolla, we're excited to have you in blue and white!
