Menlo Women’s Tennis Secures Hard-Fought Win Over Stanislaus State Amid Challenging Week

Atherton, CA - The Menlo College women's tennis team faced a busy week of competition, earning one win in three matches. The Oaks secured a home victory against Stanislaus State but came up short in tough matchups against Dominican and UC Santa Cruz.

Menlo v Stanislaus State (4-2)
The match started off in doubles play where Stanislaus was able to take the first point of the match. The Warriors would go on and take a 3-6 win at the no. 2 spot of doubles, but Livia Harper and Yousra Hidass answered back with a 6-2 victory at the no. 1 spot, with the deciding match coming at the no. 3 spot. The Warriors would end up winning a 3-6 match to secure the first point of the day.

In singles play, Stanislaus was able to earn another point at the no. 6 spot. Senior Milana Hrudka would earn the Oak's first point of the match with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory at the no. 3 spot. Fellow senior in Anthea Weiland would continue that momentum from Hrudka with another dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory at the no. 2 spot. Livia Harper would go on to earn the third point for the Oak's with an intense three set battle at the no. 1 spot 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 with the Oak's now up 3-2 in total team points. Freshman Yousra Hidass would go on to clinch the match with a gritty 6-4 first set and a smooth sailing 6-2 second set to secure the Oak's victory 4-2.


Menlo v Dominican University of California (0-7)
The Oak's held another home match, this time against the Penguins of Dominican University. The Oak's struggled in doubles play as the Penguins would end up taking a 1-6 win at the no. 2 spot and a 2-6 victory at the no. 3 spot to secure the doubles point.

In singles play, the Oak's continued to struggle to find any hint of momentum. Lea Mocher would put up a valiant fight at the no. 5 singles spot despite falling 5-7, 5-7 against her opponent. Milana Hrudka would fight hard at the no. 3 spot to spark some fire in the Oaks, but would end up falling 2-6, 4-6 to Dominican. The Penguins would go on to sweep the other singles spots to sweep the Oak's in every match to secure the victory.


Menlo v UC Santa Cruz (2-5)
The Oaks would start off their match against the Banana Slugs by claiming the doubles point. Lea Mocher and Andrea Vlasceanu would win the first match of the day at the no. 3 spot 6-2 while Anthea Weiland and Milana Hrudka would go on to win their doubles match 6-3 to earn the doubles point.

Singles play saw the Banana Slugs come in with a different approach. UC Santa Cruz would go on to earn two points with victories at the no. 5 spot 1-6, 4-6, and at the no. 6 spot 1-6, 1-6. Yousra Hidass would be the lone Oak to earn a singles bout to secure another point for the Oaks. Hidass would end up beating her opponent in a tightly contested 7-5, 6-4 win for the Oak's second and final point. The Banana Slugs would end up winning the final points of the day by earning victories in the first three singles spots to go out and earn the win over the Oaks 2-5.
