Deza Earns Thrilling Comeback in Final Match of Season Against Jessup

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's Tennis took the court for the final time this season against Jessup University on the Cartan Tennis Courts. While celebrating senior day, the Oaks ended the season with a 5-2 win over the Warriors.

Final Doubles Play of the Season
For the final doubles matches of the season, the Oaks would win two quick victories at the no. 1 and no. 3 spots to earn the first point of the day. Seniors Tanguy Calicis and Angel Roldan were put together in the no. 1 spot and earned a dominant 6-2 victory over their opponents. Ian Ramiro Perez and Bruno Barrueto Deza earned the second doubles victory over Caleb Poling and Clark Cheng by a score of 6-2 to secure the doubles point. Duarte Brito and Erkin Tootoonchi Moghaddam were on their way to secure a win at the no. 2 spot but since the Oaks secured the point, their match was cut short with a score of 5-3.

Deza Ends Season with A Monstrous Comeback
The Oak's delivered several standout performances to end the season with singles play. Tanguy Calicis took the no. 1 spot to beat Michael Marci 6-1, 6-2 to end his collegiate career on top. Fellow senior Ian Ramiro Perez was set at the no. 3 spot and rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory in his final bout with Menlo. Angel Roldan fought in a tight matchup against Jessup's Diego Rodriguez and came out with a gritty 7-5, 7-5 win to finish his collegiate tennis career. Jessup would end up taking a point at the no. 5 and no. 5 spots for their only two points of the day. The match of the day would come at the no. 6 spot where senior Bruno Barrueto-Deza would earn an amazing 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(4) comeback win to close out his collegiate career. Finishing the year with an 8-7 record, the Oaks closed out their inaugural NCAA Division II season with a winning mark and plenty to be proud of. With strong performances, memorable victories, and a standard now set, Menlo's first year at the NCAA level sets the stage for even great success ahead.
