Livia Harper Leads Oaks in Sweep Against Stanton on Cartan

ATHERTON, CA – The Menlo Women's Tennis program was able to defend the Cartan Tennis Courts in a quickly scheduled matchup against the Elks of Stanton University. The Oak's won the matchup against the Elks by earning the doubles point, and cruised to five singles victories for the victory.

Setting the Tone
The Oaks were able to get the ball rolling in doubles play. The senior duo of Milana Hrudka and Anthea Weiland were able to earn the first match win of the doubles over Stanton with a 6-1 set victory. Livia Harper and Yousra Hidass were put in the no. 1 spot and sailed to a 6-2 victory over their opponents to assist in securing the doubles point.

Aiming for the Sweep
After a dominant display of skill in the doubles, the day headed into singles play with momentum favoriting Menlo. Livia Harper earned the most dominant win out of all matches at the no. 1 spot, not giving up a single game point to her opponent, earning the 6-0 sweep in both sets. Star freshman Yousra Hidass showcased another masterclass performance with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the no. 4 spot, increasing the Oak's lead 3-0. Senior Lea Mocher would be the Oak to secure the victory over the Oaks with a straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stanton's Lana Kamel.

Anthea Weiland would continue her momentum from doubles play to add onto the Oak's lead. Weiland would go on to sweep her opponent with a 6-3 first set victory, then would battle in the second set to close out her match 6-4 at the no. 2 spot over Kimmy Muangpho. Milana Hrudka faced the toughest challenge of the day at the no. 3 singles spot, going point-for-point with Stanton's Polina Burenina in a marathon match. The senior would edge out a tightly contest first set 7-5, showcasing her consistency and grit. Burenina would respond in the second set and rallied to a 6-4 comeback, pushing the match to a decisive third set. The final set was a true test of endurance and determination, with both players trading points in a thrilling battle on the Cartan Tennis Courts. In the end, it was Hrudka's veteran experience and composure that made the ultimate difference, as the senior sealed an incredible 10-8 victory to close out the most exciting match of the day.
