Menlo Men's Tennis Shows Grit and Determination in a 4-3 Battle Against UC Santa Cruz

ATHERTON, CA – The Menlo College Men's Tennis team came out victories against the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz on the Cartan Tennis Courts. The Oaks were able to edge out UC Santa Cruz with the match coming down to the last singles match with the Oaks coming out on top 4-3.

Through Thick and Thin
The match against the Banana Slugs started off aggressive as all three doubles matches went the distance. UC Santa Cruz would end up winning the doubles point by taking the victories at the #1 and #2 spots.

The Oaks came out with a different mentality in singles play. Despite dropping two points at the #5 & #6 spots, the Oak's determination to aim for the win was at an all-time high. Tanguy Calicis was able to kick things off with the most dominant win in singles, beating his opponent 6-0, 6-3 to obtain the first team point of the day. Henry Riccioni-Brown was the next Oak to earn a point by sweeping his opponent 6-0, 6-4 at the #4 spot.

Asger Emil Ildor was able to even out the team score 3-3 at the #2 spot for the Oaks, showing his tenacity with a 6-3, 6-3 sweep. Robin McAlpine was able to fight through a second set tie breaker at #1 spot to earn the victory for the Oaks, beating his opponent 6-2, 7-6(4) to secure the clutch 4-3 victory for the Oaks.
