Sonoma, CA - The Oaks battled in the final round of the Sonoma State Golf Invitational and competed the best they could and all walked off the course today knowing they gave it their all. It was a battle against the heat and the Menlo Men's Golf team went in and finished the tournament swinging. The Oaks shot a team score of sixteen over par in the final round.
Landry Paves the Way
It was the Nicolas-Guy Landry show yet again; and Landry went out and put on a clinic in the final 18 holes of the tournament. Landry finished off the tournament with a two birdie, two bogey, and 14 par round; leaving himself with an even par, 72, round. Landry also was able to secure himself another top ten finish for the Oaks finishing in sixth place.
Bounceback Day for Gangavarapu
After a slow start yesterday from Tej Gangavarapu, he came out today in the final round and shot a lights out one over par round. This 73 from Gangavaparapu came with the support of a three birdie round, two of which came on both front nine par fives.
Director of Golf Mike Givens after the tournament said, "We left some strokes out there that we could've had; but the attitude, perseverance, and the way they went about business, I couldn't be more proud. They did a great job although some putts didn't go their way, but they will learn. I believe this tournament prepared them for the conference championships in Las Vegas; I know they want to do better because they are craftsmen, but we'll get back to practice and wrinkle out the kinks."
Assistant Coach Ryan Stefko said, "This week in Sonoma the guys competed in the strongest field we've seen all year. There was great competition and it was a great tournament on one of the best courses we have competed on. Although we had to deal with some setbacks; they fought through adversity and although it wasn't the result we wanted, they fought hard. I was with Nic for a good amount of the tournament and he was very impressive. In rounds two and three he was hitting superb golf shots and rolling the rock end over end. Although we didn't get that top five finish, he still competed at a high level which was impressive to watch and I am very proud of his demeanor."
