Moorpark, CA - After 36 holes of play, the Menlo Women's Golf team finished on top winning the CLU Regals Invitational by a team total of five strokes. This didn't come easy for the Oaks as the tough weather conditions made it tough for the ladies to score low. However; with a huge amount of both effort and heart, the Oaks left it all out on the course and eventually came out on top.
Obermuller Brings Home the Gold
After a tournament personal record first round from Senior Holly Obermuller, the only thing standing in her way of victory of the tournament was eighteen more holes of golf. Unfazed, Obermuller stepped onto the first tee box and simply went out there and did what she does best, just play golf! Obermuller went out into the final round with a smile on her face, happy to be there. Logging three birdies on her scorecard, Obermuller was able to secure a dominant tournament victory individually with a final score of three over par. These two rounds put together by Obermuller was an absolute masterpiece; winning the CLU Regals tournament by a seven stroke margin, the largest individual win by a Menlo Oak in the Givens Era. A field filled with 39 total competitors, Obermuller was the one on top. She was dialed with every part of her game over the past 48 hours, a combination of great shots off the tee, as well as really good approach shots did not make it too difficult for Obermuller to capitalize on the green.
Also finishing in the top five just behind Obermuller was Freshman from Valencia, CA Rori Fanning. Fanning, having shot an even 72 par round in day one, held her own in day two. Supporting the Oaks in every way she could whilst being able to secure a fourth place finish overall in the field.
After the round, Director of Golf Mike Givens said, "The tournament had two completely different types of days, day one had sunshine and 72°; the next day, pouring rain, windy, and cold. But the ladies stuck with it, and were able to hold onto the win. I was proud of the way they weathered the storm as they could've easily caved; but they stuck it out, they persevered, and came out on top. Huge kudos to both Holly and Julia for getting personal records and Holly for coming in first place."
