Seth Borba Earns Outstanding Wrestler as Oaks Dominate the NCWA WCC Championship

SURPRISE, AZ - The Menlo Men's Wrestling program was able to take 1st place at the NCWA WCC Championships with 270.5 points. The Oaks placed every wrestler in the top three with seven champions and Seth Borba earning Outstanding Wrestler.

Tournament Results
Elijah Valencia (125 - 1st) - Valencia was able to take the 125-pound bracket by winning all four of his matches by bonus points. Valencia earned two quick falls in his first two matches and a technical fall in the semifinals. The freshman capped off his tournament with a major decision in the finals to earn first place, and a spot in the national tournament. 

Jeramiah Steele (133 - 1st) - Steele was able to steamroll the competition, pinning his quarter final and semi final opponents before securing a major decision in the finals to take first. 

Ivan Acosta (141 - 2nd) - Acosta earned two tech falls in his first two matches to earn a spot in the finals. Despite a valiant effort, Acosta would fall in the finals and picked up 21 team points. 

Noah Elliott (149 - 1st) - Elliott put on a clinic, earning a technical fall and a pin before earning a close 4-2 decision victory in the finals to claim gold, also adding 27.5 team points to the team total. 

Ezekiel Lara (157 - 1st) - Lara remained dominant throughout the tournament, recording two tech falls in the quarters and finals to claim gold. Lara's day was highlighted with a 22-3 technical fall in the finals, earning 27 team points. 

Seth Borba (165 - 1st) - Borba delivered a flawless performance, pinning all four of his opponents, earning the outstanding wrestler of the tournament with 32 team points. 

Ledger Petracek (174 - 1st) - Petracek also dominated his bracket with three consecutive pins, his fastest coming in 1:03. He was able to pin his final's opponent in 1:32 and collected 30 team points to the team total. 

Maximus Zamora (184 -1st) - Senior Maximus Zamora was able to claim another gold this season, featuring three quick falls and an early first round pin in under 30 seconds. Zamora earned a 3:46 pin in the finals and finished with 30 team points. 

Diego Morales (197 - 2nd) - Morales was able to reach the finals with a pin in the semifinals. Despite a tough effort trying to get a takedown to get the lead, Morales would drop his finals match and earn second place while earning 22 team points. 

Cole Steketee (285 - 3rd) - Steketee was able to beat each opponent to get into the semis. Dropping his semifinals bout, Steketee rebounded to dominate the consolation bracket, securing a pin for third place and finishing with 20.5 team points. 

With 7 champions and all ten wrestlers qualifying for the national tournament, the Oaks have showcased what it takes to compete at the NCWA National Championships coming up soon.
