Menlo Women's Tennis Fights Valiantly but Falls to Fresno Pacific and Stanislaus State

ATHERTON, CA & TURLOCK, CA - Menlo Women's tennis hosted their first match on the Cartan Tennis Courts this past weekend against Fresno Pacific University, while heading to Turlock, CA to take on Stanislaus State. Despite fighting valiantly in both matches, the Oaks were unable to come out with a win over the weekend. 

Menlo v. Fresno Pacific (3-4)
The home opener started out in doubles play where the Oaks were able to secure the first point of the day. Milana Hrudka and Anthea Weiland dominated their match 6-1. Yousra Hidass and Lea Mocher finished their match with a commanding 6-0 sweep to assist in securing the first point. However, the singles matches proved to be a different story, as Fresno Pacific mounted a strong comeback. Menlo struggled in the top four spots, with Fresno Pacific taking the first two singles matches in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-2, respectively. In closely fought three-set battles, the Oaks were edged out despite winning the first sets in the no.3 and no.4 spots, allowing Fresno Pacific to claim the lead. Menlo didn't back down, as Lea Mocher secured a hard-fought win at the no. 5 singles spot 3-6, 6-1,6-3 while teammate Yousra Hidass delivered another dominant performance at the no. 6 spot 6-0 and 6-1 to tie the team score at 3-3. Ultimately, Fresno Pacific sealed the victory with their earlier singles wins higher up the lineup.

Menlo v. Stanislaus State (2-5)
In doubles play, the Oaks were seen battling for every point. Milana Hrudka and Anthea Weiland were able to win 6-3 in the no. 2 spot. The Oaks would end up dropping a tightly contested bout 6-7 (5-7) in the no. 1 spot and 3-6 in no. 3. The Oaks were seen battling throughout singles play, dropping a 3 set match in the first match. The Warriors would take the next two bouts in two sets each, however Milana Hrudka stopped the Warriors streak by defeating her opponent 7-6, 6-2 to earn the Oaks' first point of the day. Yousra Hidass followed Hrudka by adding another team point 6-4, 0-6, and 6-2. The Oaks would end up dropping the no.6 spot match up 6-2, 4-6, 1-6 to end the day, falling to the Warriors 2-5.
