COSTA MESA, CA – Menlo Men's Wrestling launched their first conference dual this season with authority, earning a 25-10 victory over Vanguard inside of the Freed Center. The Oaks took control of the flow from the opening whistle and never let the Lions gain any sort of momentum.
 
DUAL RECAP
The dual opened at 125lbs where Roberto Lopez made a successful drop from 133. Lopez set the tone early and took control with an 8-1 decision over Jiovanni Evanglista to put the Oaks on the board early. The Oaks would drop a close decision at 133lbs with Vanguard's Zachary Klarcykc taking the match. At 141lbs the Oaks would respond fast with Michael Torres delivering a dominant 14-3 major decision. Jeramiah Steele followed after Torres, bumping up to fill in 149lbs and majoring Vince Partington 12-2 to put the Oaks up 11-3.
 
Ezekiel Lara continued the run at 157lbs by facing a familiar foe in Bryant Avila, who was the Cascade Collegiate Conference 149lb champion in 2024. Lara would go on to take the 5-0 decision over Avila, earning the lone takedown in the match to increase the Oak's lead further. Kanaipono Tapia took the spot at 165lbs and piled on bonus points with an 11-1 major to stretch Menlo's lead 18-3. Isaiah Morales kept the momentum rolling at 174lbs, tallying another major for Oaks over Mason Hernandez 17-4.
 
Vanguard stopped the streak at 184 where Marquize Brown would earn a 9-4 victory for the Lions second set of team points. Diego Morales would seal the dual at 197 with a tough 4-2 victory over Isaiah Johnson. The dual concluded with Vanguard earning a major decision victory at 285 with the dual ending in Menlo's favor 25-10.
