ATHERTON, CA – A furious comeback had Menlo Men's Basketball completely erase a 19-point deficit in the second half before taking the lead on an emphatic dunk by senior forward JaMaal Unuakhalu with more than six minutes left, but Tuesday's Pacific West Conference battle ended up in the hands of Jessup 78-70 as the visitors to Haynes-Prim Pavilion countered with a 10-0 run and held on with conversions from the foul line.

Impressive Nine-Minute Stretch Sees Oaks Take Lead From Warriors
Each time Jessup tried to make a move in the first 15 minutes of the contest, the Oaks had an answer. From a 3-pointer by junior guard Marvin Brumfield to sophomore guard Quentin Thompson's layup that sparked a 6-0 burst to senior forward Nick High's layup with just under five minutes to go in the period, Menlo remained right with the Warriors. However, a 16-3 finish to the opening half by the visitors put them in front 36-22 and that margin grew to 19 early in the second.

Facing a 49-30 deficit, the Oaks went to work with back-to-back layups from Brumfield and junior guard Devon Woods before junior forward Salim Arikat knocked down a triple then quickly forced a steal which led to transition points. The difference was at seven when Jessup began to trade scores with Menlo then a 9-0 surge was capped by five points from junior guard Max Sheridan including an emotional three-point play.

The Oaks and Warriors found themselves tied at 54-54 then again at 56-56 before Unuakhalu caught a pass from senior forward Nick High and proceeded to throw down a huge dunk over Jessup's defense for the 58-56 advantage. Multiple 3-pointers composed the aforementioned 10-0 response from the Warriors, however, and though Woods converted a three-point play to make it just six with almost two minutes left, time ran out on another comeback in the 78-70 final.
