Oaks Take Westcliff Warrior Classic Title in Dominant Fashion

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – The Menlo Women's Wrestling team keeps continues to show how lethal their entire lineup is with three dominant dual wins at the first ever Westcliff Warrior Classic, crowning themselves champions of the dual tournament.
Highlights of the Tournament
  • Stephanie Chavez keeps her pinning streak going, earning three pins on the day
  • Seniors Louisa Schwab and Haley Narahara dominate 124 and 131 with similar victories, both earning two technical falls and ending their days with first period pins
  • Keana Valle would go 3-0 on the day with two tech falls and a pin.
 
Dominant Start to the Day | Menlo v. Bandit, 37-0
The Oaks opened their day with a shutout win against Bandit, a roster filled with different programs to face the Oaks. With forfeits at 103 and 117, Audrey Swiderek set the ton early and earned a 10-0 tech fall for a 14-0 team lead. All-Americans Schwab, Narahara, and Chavez followed with two techs and a pin to extend their lead. Pearla Hanna added another pin in just two minutes while Keanna Valle closed the dual with a quick :48 second pin to seal the 45-0 sweep.
 
Keeping the Ball Rolling | Menlo v. Westcliff, 34-11
The Oaks stayed hot against the hosting team Westcliff in the following round, Senior Kayla McKinley-Johnson kicked off the duall at 110lbs with a. 6-0 decision win that was paired with a 103lb forfeit to take a 8-0 lead. Hayden Fry wasted no time at 117 and secured a tech in under a minute while Schwab and Narahara continued their roll with back-to-back techs. The Oaks surrendered their first points of the day at 138, but Chavez and Alexandra Lopez answered immediately with first period pins to push the lead to 30-5. Despite giving up 18-, Valle closed the dual in signature fashion with a 14-4 tech fall to secure the 34-11 victory, putting the Oaks in the finals.
 
Sweeping the Competition | Menlo v. Snow College, 36-9
In a rematch with Snow College for the tournament title, the Oaks delivered a far different outcome than last season's meeting. After a whole day of rest, Navjot Waraich would finally get some action at 103lbs after earning two forfeits in the previous two meets. The freshman would go on to pin her opponent in under two minutes to begin the dual. McKinley-Johnson and Fry would end up earning 10-0 tech falls while Schwab and Narahara would end up earning pins.
 
The Oaks would go on and forfeit 138, however Chavez and Lopez would add on more bonus points to the team score with a pin and a techfall. With the title already secured, Valle would end the night with 12-0 technical fall at 207lbs.
