Oaks Wrestling Blanks Simpson for a Successful Senior Night

ATHERTON, CA – Menlo Men's wrestling was able to have a successful senior night against Simpson University, blanking the Redhawks 52-0 in an electrifying dual. The Oaks showcased their depth and strength across all weight classes.

RESULTS
 

Hot from the Jump
The Oaks had Elijah Valencia start things off at 125 once again as he set the tone of the night with a 15-0 technical superiority. At 133, Noah Messman was in the lineup as he was the first senior to step on the mat. Messman was awarded a forfeit win but still took the mat and put up 16 points to 1, earning a technical fall, making his senior night one to remember. Freshman Ivan Acosta was the pick at 141lbs and looked like a four-year veteran on the mat. Acosta picked up a lightning quick pin in just under 30 seconds to give the Oaks a comfortable 17-0 lead in 3 matches. The next senior on the mat was Devin Shimabukuro at 149lbs. Earning a couple takedowns, Shimabukuro was able to edge out a gritty 8-7 decision victory while Ezekiel Lara kept the streak alive with another battle at 157 with a 7-5 decision.
 

Upper Weight Dominance
The second half of the dual showed how superior the Oaks upper weights have been this season. Devon Wells was the pick at 165 and displayed how relentless his attack is by earning a pin in the last :30 seconds of his bout. Senior Ledger Petracek added another pin to the scoreboard as he ended his senior night bout in a minute and a half. Maximus Zamora once again showed how dominant he has been this season. Zamora was able to claim a 22-5 technical fall at 184lbs to end his senior night on a fantastic note. Fellow senior Jonathan Moreno bumped up to 197lbs to continue the Oaks' win streak with another quick pin in :37 seconds. With the final match of the night, senior Emitt Mercado was the chosen Oak to take the heavyweight bout and took a forfeit to end the night 52-0 in favor of the Oaks.
