Women's Wrestling Earns Their First Two Dual Wins of the New Year

ATHERTON, CA – For the first duals of the new year, women's wrestling was able to earn their first couple of dual wins against Big Bend and Snow College. The Oaks were able to earn a dominant 53-1 win over Big Bend, then earn a a narrow 24-22 victory over Snow College.
 
Menlo v. Big Bend
In the first dual of the dual of the evening, Big Bend ended up giving up five forfeits at 117, 131, 138, 145, and 180. The Oaks started off the dual with senior Angelique Cervantes earning a vicious technical fall over her opponent 10-0 to open up the dual. Micaela Correa was able to earn a pin at 110lbs with Sera Vela earning a pin at 124lbs. Jessica Mendieta earned vicious 12-3 tech fall to further increase the Oaks lead, along with Mikayla Lancaster closing out the night with a pin, with the final score being 43-1.
 
Menlo v. Snow
The second dual of the night was the dual of the night. The Oaks dropped the first match of the dual, however Correa was able to earn yet another pin in :34 seconds. Snow was able to win by tech fall at 117 with Sara Vela answering back with a 9-5 decision win to make the match 8-9 in favor of Snow. Snow picked up a pin at 131 but freshman Maci Stemmons and sophomore Alana Ontiveros were able to pick up pins to give the Oaks the lead. Snow answered back with a decision win but Mikayla Lancaster was able to put the icing on the cake with a tech fall to secure the Oaks victory 24-22.
