Surprise, AZ-It was an outstanding run for Menlo Men's Tennis in the GSAC Championship Tournament with the Oaks sweeping through the first two rounds of play. Unfortunately, in their final matchup against the Westcliff Warriors the Oaks were unable to come away with the win. Still, it was a great season for the team with multiple award winners, long winning streaks and a solid playoff run.
The day would start with positive momentum with the doubles pair of David Mulas Zelenskaya and Asger Ildor picking up a win by a final score of 6-3. While the Oaks would lose the next two doubles pairings they would head into the singles portion of the day with a chance to rally and make a push. Unfortunately, the Warriors, who came into the tournament ranked fifth in the nation, never allowed Menlo to gain any momentum. In singles play it would once again be Zelenskaya and IIdor who would lead the way. IIdor would fall in three sets but put together one of the more entertaining matchups with both players going back and forth all afternoon long. Zelenskaya would not be given the opportunity to finish his set given the Warriors ability to clinch but he along with Tanguy Calicis would both push towards a third set.
In the end the Oaks were unable to pull off the upset but should still hold their heads high. In only their second year the team has continued to take huge strides forward with an appearance in the conference championship, two all-conference players and the freshman of the year. Menlo tennis is on an upward trajectory!
