Women’s Tennis Dominates GSAC Awards for 2023-2024 Season

4/22/2024 10:20:00 AM

Atherton, CA-Women's Tennis just finished up a dominant season that saw the team post a 10-2 record including nine match win streak to end the year. The playoffs are right around the corner and Menlo has now received a large portion of the GSAC's end of the year awards. Armed with some of the best players in the conference the team will now look to make a run at the GSAC title this week!

Valentina Urelli Rinaldi Named Player of the Year

Since joining Menlo last year Valentina Urelli Rinaldi has been a dominant force for the Oaks. Last year she was named to the All-Conference team and now has even surpassed that accomplishment this year. She has been fantastic as the top rated Oak on the national scene, who has been unstoppable with 16 wins in singles play this year including seven straight singles victories. Has won six straight doubles matches as well. She has been one of the biggest catalysts for the success out at the Cartan Courts.

Niederle and Harper Earn Recognition as Well

Alongside Rinaldi, Franziska Niederle would go on to win her second straight All-Conference nomination as well! As a singles player this year she only has 2 losses posting a 6-2 singles record. She has been dominant as a doubles player going 9-1 with her lone loss coming to NCAA DII Academy of Art. All six of her singles wins have been two set sweeps as well including two shutout wins. In other words the one-two punch of Niederle and Rinaldi has been dominant all year long. While the team's top two seniors have been staples of the program's success the future also looks bright with Livia Harper being named the Freshman of the Year. With some of the Oaks top players preparing to graduate, having a top tier freshman waiting in the wings bodes well for the future of Menlo Tennis out at Cartan!
