Atherton, CA-It was a beautiful day out at the newly renovated Cartan Tennis Courts which set the stage for a perfect final home match and senior day for the men of Menlo Tennis. Not only did the Oaks pick up one final regular season win but they got the chance to celebrate a trio of seniors who have been instrumental in getting the program started over the past two years!
Oaks Make Quick Work of the Warriors
From the first serve of the day the Oaks made it clear they were more than up to the task of picking up a big victory. In doubles play Menlo would win the first two matches to clinch the victory behind 6-2 scores from the pairings of David Mulas Zelenskaya/Erkin Tootoonchi Moghaddam and Robin Mcalpine/Asger Ildor handling business quickly. While they would not need to complete their match the third pairing of Tanguy Calicis/Saar Rogovski maintained a convincing 5-2 lead before halting play.
In the singles Menlo was just as efficient. Mulas Zelenskaya, Mcalpine, Ildor and Calicis would all pick up wins as well. Calicis and Mcalpine posted identical scores of 6-0 and 6-2. While both have been new additions to coach Cabell's roster and have instantly become valuable assets on the court.
Thank You Seniors
The trio of Rogovski, Mulas Zelenskaya and Emmanuel Azam were all acknowledged as the departing trio of Menlo Men's Tennis. All three have been key cogs in the development of this young program. Mulas Zelenskaya has spent the past two seasons as Menlo's captain. He has not only been an outstanding player, including one of the conference's top doubles players but an outstanding leader both on and off the court. Rogovski meanwhile was an all-conference member last year who has been the Oaks number one player all season long. A force in the singles, Rogovski also managed to secure an individual ITA Regional Championship last seasons as well.
Up Next…
All attention now turns to a run in the GSAC Tournament next week. This will be an outstanding test for the team to rally behind the aforementioned seniors and attempt to raise a championship banner one last time before the program transitions into the ranks of NCAA Division II.
